Microcrystalline cellulose
Microcrystalline cellulose is a by-product of hydrolytic degradation, typically using a strong mineral
acid such as hydrogen chloride. It is also bleached with sodium hypochlorite or hydrogen peroxide to
render it colorless.  The safety of ingesting this synthetically produced chemical has not yet been
unequivocally determined. We do not yet know if it is a carcinogen, ground water contaminant, has
developmental or reproductive toxicity, or is an endocrine disruptor.  Nonetheless, evidence exists
that it is
toxic in mammals.
